The reasons why you are always tired could simply be lack of sleep! However, lack of sleep may be the symptom but there are many underlying causes to lack of sleep and general fatigue.

When the body is under stress of any kind, psychological, emotional, physical this can impact the overall function and health of the body and as the body likes to be in balance (homeostasis), it will always try and achieve this balance but may need extra resources, if it does not get these resources in the form of rest, good quality food and supplements we end up fatigued as the body cannot cope.

I believe that we should have sustainable energy throughout the day, ready at the start of the day and feeling energised throughout the day, if you are unable to get out of bed, the snooze button is your favourite button and you rely on coffee to get you through the afternoon slump then please continue reading, this is for you………

The reasons you could be suffering from fatigue are as follows:

  • Toxicity in the body leads to low energy and exhaustion among other symptoms
  • Caffeine leads to insomnia and anxiety
  • Food intolerances lead to nutritional deficiencies that lead to fatigue
  • Sleep debt – getting less than 7-8 hours of sleep a night
  • Stress = raised cortisol levels which leads to fatigue

When the body simply cannot keep up with the tremendous amount of daily stress we end up with adrenal fatigue, this is where the adrenal glands become overloaded and ineffective. If you don’t address the underlying cause and this goes on for a period of time you may end up with chronic fatigue and then you will have a much longer road to recovery.

The 3 Steps to Solving Fatigue

Without stating the obvious, the treatment involves reducing stress on your body and mind, eliminating toxins and nourishing the body.

Diet and lifestyle are a huge factor and there are a number of foods that you should include, equally there are foods that need to be avoided and you should always do what you can to avoid toxins and chemicals in your environment.

As discussed earlier, one of the foods to avoid is Caffeine, apart from interfering with sleep, it can add to your toxic overload. Sugar & sweeteners, try to avoid sugar as much as possible and be aware that it can be added to all sort of foods even ones you least expect such as savoury tinned or bottled sauces. Processed foods, they have many preservatives and fillers that are hard to digest and wear out your body’s energy and digestion cycle.

We are looking to have as nutrient dense as possible:

  • Cruciferous vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc.)

  1. Sleep 8-10 hours a night
  2. Keep to a regular sleep cycle – ideally, in bed before 10pm
  3. Laugh and do something fun every single day
  4. Eat nutrient dense REAL foods, reduce sugar and caffeine
  5. Exercise (do something you enjoy, even walking can help)
  6. Avoid negative people and self talk
  7. Take time for yourself – to do something relaxing (yoga, meditation, bath)

EMAIL ALERT! SWITCH OFF THE CONSTANT PRESSURE

Email Alert! Do you get react instantly every time you see an email in your inbox or receive an email on your phone, stop what you are doing and reply? Would you like to know how to stop being a slave to technology and what I call other people’s stuff…….. Every time you stop what you are doing or are distracted by an email you are being controlled by something or someone else. I stopped the constant pressure and demands over 2 years ago and now my email works for me, I am not a slave to it.

Firstly our email is not the problem, we are, constantly check our emails effects our productivity, ever had one of those days where you are busy being busy and at the end of the day you have achieved nothing? Secondly, constantly checking our emails not only affects our productivity but can affect our stress levels as we feel pressured to constantly deal with our inbox. However, equally important is how you set up your email and your alerts.

Research shows that you really don’t get much done when you’re constantly checking your emails all the time, this is because you are distracted and jumping from one thought to another as you read through the emails and it may make this more difficult for you to focus on the task at hand. Furthermore, an email that is sitting in your inbox unread may drain additional resources as you keep thinking about it, you keep wondering who it is from, what does the email contain?, is it good or bad news?.

While this may be the case some of us are required to respond to emails instantly as part of the job, so what practical measures can we take to avoid being a slave to email alerts!

This is what I did and my hope is that you can use some of these strategies in your life to switch off the constant pressure:

  1. Take your email off your phone: take a break you do not need to be online and contactable 24/7. It also stops you peeking at your email during lunch or business meetings and being distracted. When you are with someone else you need to be fully present and you are unable to do this if half your brain is constantly checking your emails every 5 seconds.
  2. Block out time in your day to respond to emails: depending on your ratio of emails to work you can block out time once a day or 4 times a day. For example first thing in the morning, mid morning, after lunch and before you leave the office.
  3. Categorise your emails: during your “email time” file your emails in two different folders: Never – delete right away, Later – follow up and Now – deal with the emails you need to deal with immediately.
  4. Set up an auto response: this lets people know you have received their email and will deal with it. I like to give a time frame so that you can manage their expectations and they know how soon they will get a reply.

In conclusion, stand up to your email – be the boss of your inbox and get more done. Use the Now, Later, Never principles to control the emails in your inbox and develop your own system that fits in with your specific job and email requirements, the idea is to make this easier, less time consuming and less stressful and as with everything these is no “one size fits all approach”.

Will you give these strategies a try? Although it may not seem easy at first it gets easier over time and you will wish you had done it years ago. Let’s use technology as it was intended to make our lives easier not more complicated – don’t be a slave to your email, learn to switch off the constant pressure.

TURNING NEGATIVES INTO POSITIVES MAY SEEM EASY, HOW CAN THIS BE DONE?

How you view what happens to you in life, whether you see it is positive or negative experience is all in how you personally interpret it – it is an interpretation in your mind based on past experiences and your internal programming from your external environment.

Your brain works like a biological super computer, it assesses information and responds to it, how we respond depends on the information we receive and how we interpret it. Once our brain accepts information it becomes a belief, in other words the body, mind or soul accepts it as real and it becomes a programme, it does not necessarily mean that it is real.

These programmes can other be to our benefit or to out detriment – in society we tend to label things as positive or negative, good or bad but in actual fact it is our response that is positive or negative not the event or the emotions. If we decide things are negative it can have an adverse affect on our heart, mind, body and soul but do you know what the best thing about this is ……. It is optional! You can change your thoughts, beliefs and experiences and observe what happens and let it go without labelling them positive or negative. Trust that you can change your situation.

Think about what you expect to happen – What do people tell you? What did your parents tell you? As mentioned we are good at labelling things but what if you changed the way you look at things and decide that everything that happens to you is good in the sense of it being a lesson. Of course it is okay to have preferences for certain things to happen but the lesson is to observe, release and be happy regardless. Happiness then becomes a state of mind, and is not based on anything outside of you but is internal.

Often, things will not go according to our plans because we have made a mistake, but the point is not to judge, it is fair to say that some mistakes have greater implications than others but everything is a lesson and part of the learning is to never let it happen again.

Turning a negative into a positive is just recognizing that everything always works out for your highest and best. As annoying as it may be we have all either used the expression or had it quoted to us “everything happens for a reason” or that it was a “blessing in disguise”. Most often, those things that we thought were the worst things in fact turned out to be the best, it is just because of our programming that we label them as positive or negative, good or bad when in fact they are just experiences guiding us on our path.

A classic example is a breakup, this can be a very gut-wrenching experience but a break up with the wrong person is needed to open the path for the right person to enter your life.

 Look for the Lesson

If you are REALLY stuck ask yourself this question “how does this get any better?” Sit quietly and ask yourself this question, ask yourself what lesson you are supposed to learn, once you understand the lesson, acknowledge and release it. This allows something different to enter your reality, it allows you to observe, and release any feelings associated with the experience and to move on.

Work through It
Sometimes we need to grieve, cry, scream, shout and curse. Often we just need to feel it, truly feel the feelings. If you bottle up your feeling they will show up sooner or later and will impact your life in some other way affecting your health and happiness. You will find that by not resisting your emotions, you allow yourself to fully enter the healing process.

In our modern society I think negativity is becoming an addiction, most of what we see and hear is negative, we begin thinking negative thoughts and find it hard to stop and before you know it you are stuck in a negative reality. Have you ever had a conversation with a negative person? It can be difficult to change the conversation, but ask them these two questions “how can you change it?” and “how does this get any better?”, this turns the conversation into a place where they see the possibility of taking action to change their experience rather than allowing society, government, neighbors, friends to dictate what happens.

I admit when I was extremely ill I did not see my illness as a blessing and at the time I did not see the lesson but I found a mentor and I worked through it and it set me on my path to help others achieve optimal health and happiness and live their best lived. I would not be on my journey to help myself and others had it not been for my illness.

So when something you perceive as negative happens to you always observe how you feel and find the lesson that you can take from the experience, I promise this will be life changing. Trust me when you take responsibility for your actions and your experiences, things ALWAYS turn out for the best.

A QUESTION WORTH THINKING ABOUT FOR THE NEW YEAR

If you are like most people there are things you would like to change in your life, these could be anything from improving your health, wanting to be happier or to be more successful.

As the year draws to a close and we are faced with making the usual New Year’s resolution it may be time for you to think about what you should be doing with your life.

What do you really want? Often we focus on what we don’t want, we all know what we don’t want but in my experience very few people sit down and think about what they really do want. I think often we are taught that it is bad to want things and we feel guilty for wanting things but I give you permission it is OK to think about what you really want, to be clear I am talking about wanting things for yourself such as improved health, more money, more free time, financial freedom, to be able to travel more often and not about coveting things that other people have.

What do you really want? You need to answer this question with passion and with clarity in order to decide what you should do with your life. The second question I would ask is why, what do you really want and why do you want it?

Everyone I know wants to have or create better circumstances than they have right now for themselves and for the people they care about. Understanding what it is that you truly desire is the key to taking the first step to change your life. If you don’t know what you want, you don’t know what action steps to take in order to get there. It is natural to have hopes and dreams, when we have hopes and dreams we start to take action to make those hopes and dreams come true. When we lose hope, we lose our enthusiasm and no longer take the required action needed to make our dreams come true. So knowing what you really, really want drives you forward; if you know what you want, you know where you are going and therefore you know the steps you need to take in order to get to where you want to be.

Practical Steps to Decide: What to do with your life

  1. Get a blank piece of paper, write at the top – My perfect Ideal day
  2. Take at least 5 deep breaths and relax
  3. Ask yourself this question “if I could have anything, what would I want?”
  4. Don’t be logical, practical or realistic, let your imagination run wild
  5. Write down whatever comes to mind
  6. Spend at least 15 to 20 minutes on this

When I did this a number of years ago for the first time, I really struggled so if like me this is the first time you have done this and you are struggling to think about and imagine what you really want here are some questions to help you:

  • Where would you like to be living? country, city, farm, woodlands, by the sea
  • What kind of house would you like to be living in?
  • How many rooms, bedrooms, outside space etc?
  • Who would you like to spend your time with?
  • What type of food would you like to be eating and with whom?
  • How many hours do you want to be working?
  • What work would you like to be doing?
  • What will you do in your leisure time?
  • Who would you like to spend your leisure time with?

The first step in this process is to make sure you have a clear understanding of what success means to you. Many of you reading this have been conditioned by your parents, family, peers, and society to think that success should look a specific way (house, car, family, money, etc.)

Some people have no interest in making a lot of money, buying a big house, and working all day in an office, they would rather live a simple and humble life others may love to work twelve hours a day six days a week

To each their own, just make sure you are being true to yourself and not other people’s definitions. As Steve Jobs said “The only way to do great work is to love what you do”

Step two is to relax and have fun, make sure you turn off all distractions and have nothing to do and nowhere to be.

I 100% guarantee you that when you love what you do you will have so much energy that you won’t be able to contain yourself. So I ask you again:

What do you really want? and Why do you want it?

When you can answer these questions with clarity and passion – Congratulations!! Follow your dreams; you will know what you want to do with your life.

EPSOM SALTS : Uses and Health Benefits

Epsom salts have numerous health benefits as well as many other uses such as beauty, household and gardening-related uses, it has been used as a natural remedy for a number of ailments for hundreds of years.

Using Epsom Salts

Mix a half-teaspoon of Epsom salt with your regular organic cleanser and gently massage into skin and rinse with cold water.

Clean bathroom tiles

Mix equal parts Epsom salt and liquid dish detergent and use as a scrub on bathroom tile.

Hand wash

Mix Epsom salt with coconut oil and keep by the sink for an effective hand wash.

Fertilize your houseplants

Plants need nutrients like magnesium and sulphur to stay in good health and Epsom salt makes the primary nutrients in most plant foods (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) more effective. Sprinkle Epsom salt once weekly to help nourish your houseplants, flowers and vegetables.
