A QUESTION WORTH THINKING ABOUT FOR THE NEW YEAR

If you are like most people there are things you would like to change in your life, these could be anything from improving your health, wanting to be happier or to be more successful.

As the year draws to a close and we are faced with making the usual New Year’s resolution it may be time for you to think about what you should be doing with your life.

What do you really want? Often we focus on what we don’t want, we all know what we don’t want but in my experience very few people sit down and think about what they really do want. I think often we are taught that it is bad to want things and we feel guilty for wanting things but I give you permission it is OK to think about what you really want, to be clear I am talking about wanting things for yourself such as improved health, more money, more free time, financial freedom, to be able to travel more often and not about coveting things that other people have.

What do you really want? You need to answer this question with passion and with clarity in order to decide what you should do with your life. The second question I would ask is why, what do you really want and why do you want it?

Everyone I know wants to have or create better circumstances than they have right now for themselves and for the people they care about. Understanding what it is that you truly desire is the key to taking the first step to change your life. If you don’t know what you want, you don’t know what action steps to take in order to get there. It is natural to have hopes and dreams, when we have hopes and dreams we start to take action to make those hopes and dreams come true. When we lose hope, we lose our enthusiasm and no longer take the required action needed to make our dreams come true. So knowing what you really, really want drives you forward; if you know what you want, you know where you are going and therefore you know the steps you need to take in order to get to where you want to be.

Practical Steps to Decide: What to do with your life

  1. Get a blank piece of paper, write at the top – My perfect Ideal day
  2. Take at least 5 deep breaths and relax
  3. Ask yourself this question “if I could have anything, what would I want?”
  4. Don’t be logical, practical or realistic, let your imagination run wild
  5. Write down whatever comes to mind
  6. Spend at least 15 to 20 minutes on this

When I did this a number of years ago for the first time, I really struggled so if like me this is the first time you have done this and you are struggling to think about and imagine what you really want here are some questions to help you:

  • Where would you like to be living? country, city, farm, woodlands, by the sea
  • What kind of house would you like to be living in?
  • How many rooms, bedrooms, outside space etc?
  • Who would you like to spend your time with?
  • What type of food would you like to be eating and with whom?
  • How many hours do you want to be working?
  • What work would you like to be doing?
  • What will you do in your leisure time?
  • Who would you like to spend your leisure time with?

The first step in this process is to make sure you have a clear understanding of what success means to you. Many of you reading this have been conditioned by your parents, family, peers, and society to think that success should look a specific way (house, car, family, money, etc.)

Some people have no interest in making a lot of money, buying a big house, and working all day in an office, they would rather live a simple and humble life others may love to work twelve hours a day six days a week

To each their own, just make sure you are being true to yourself and not other people’s definitions. As Steve Jobs said “The only way to do great work is to love what you do”

Step two is to relax and have fun, make sure you turn off all distractions and have nothing to do and nowhere to be.

I 100% guarantee you that when you love what you do you will have so much energy that you won’t be able to contain yourself. So I ask you again:

What do you really want? and Why do you want it?

When you can answer these questions with clarity and passion – Congratulations!! Follow your dreams; you will know what you want to do with your life.

TIPS FOR PROTECTING SKIN DURING THE COLD WEATHER

Winter Skin Tipsas published on Watchfit

As the colder weather arrives do you find that your skin starts to get dry and flaky? You need to pay attention to what you skin is telling you no matter what time of the year and all you need to do is tweak your skin care routine depending on the season.

You should always protect your skin and supply it with beneficial nutrients inside and out to keep it healthy all year-round but as the weather changes in the winter you need to adapt your skin-care routine as the air becomes drier inside and out.

Don’t forget your skin is an outer reflection of your inner health, I believe that a nutrient-dense, whole foods diet, with particular attention paid to certain vitamins, minerals, and other compounds, is a powerful tool helping your skin stay supply and moisturised throughout the winter – many people miss the opportunity to make major improvements in their skin simply by changing what they eat.

Flaky, chapped lips are common in the winter months and may require some extra TLC, use a gentle exfoliate to remove dry, dead skin cells and follow up with a nourishing lip treatment for super smooth lips.

Two effective remedies against dry, itchy winter skin:

  • Getting sufficient amounts of animal-based omega-3 fats in your diet, and
  • Using coconut oil to moisturize your skin

Top Tips for protecting skin in the winter

  • Stay active — it benefits your mind, and body, work out at home, or bundle up and go for a long walk outside. When the weather turns cold, it is tempting to curl up with a good book, but maintaining an active lifestyle will keep you healthy from the inside out.
  • When going outside, protect your skin from the elements by wearing a hat, scarf and gloves. Cold, dry weather can wreak havoc on your skin, but by wearing the proper attire is an easy way to prevent exposure.
  • Introduce more nourishing skin care products for the face and body.
  • Start the winter season with refreshed skin, slough off the summer residue to start with refreshed skin that may be dry from too much summer fun in the sun – do a gentle exfoliation on a weekly basis.
  • Coconut oil or Almond oil: both natural home remedies that keep the skin smooth and moisturized – massage almond oil over the dry areas. Can also be used for the lips
  • Aloe Vera: Aloe Vera provides all the essential nutrients to the skin and makes it smooth and glowing.
  • Homemade Sugar Scrub: mix sugar with coconut oil and use as a scrub. You can add some honey – this mix will exfoliate and moisturize the skin.

Apart from taking adequate care of your skin during winter, it is also necessary to focus on what you eat. Here are some helpful tips:

  • Keep the body well hydrated and drink plenty of pure water
  • Keep away from junk and processed foods
  • Citrus fruits can strengthen the body and keep the skin healthy – they are filled with Vitamin C which is a great anti-oxidant for the body and skin
  • Lemon: Lemon is rich in vitamin C – drinking a cup of warm water with fresh lemon added helps to detox the body and balance the pH which helps to ultimately give you skin a natural glow.
  • Eat plenty of fruit and vegetables high in antioxidants.
  • Add ginger and turmeric to your food.

Six steps you can follow to ensure healthy skin in the winter and all year-round:

  1. Watch Your Environment: remove as many toxins as possible from your environment
  2. Enhance Your Digestion: make sure that your digestion is working optimally – your skin is a reflection of your internal health
  3. Ensure Outstanding Detoxification: make sure all your detox pathways are working effectively, I recommend doing a natural supported cleanse at the change of each season.
  4. Balance Your Blood Sugar
  5. Keep Your Hormones in Check
  6. Boost your Nutrient Intake

Top Tips for Supplement to Protecting Skin in the Winter

EPSOM SALTS : Uses and Health Benefits

EPSOM SALTSas published on Watchfit

Epsom salts have numerous health benefits as well as many other uses such as beauty, household and gardening-related uses, it has been used as a natural remedy for a number of ailments for hundreds of years.

Epsom salt has beneficial properties that can soothe the body, mind and soul and helps with the following:

  • relaxing the nervous system
  • curing skin problems
  • soothing back pain and aching limbs
  • easing muscle strain
  • healing cuts
  • treating colds and congestion, and
  • drawing toxins from the body

Using Epsom Salts

The simplest way to use Epsom to ease stress and stress-related problems is to soak in a bath full of hot water with a few cups of Epsom Salts and add a few drops of Lavender Essential Oil

When we are stressed levels of adrenaline rise and levels of magnesium go down. When we bath in warm water with Epsom salt, magnesium is absorbed through the skin and replenishes the level of magnesium in the body. Magnesium helps to produce serotonin, a mood-elevating chemical that creates the feelings of being calm and relaxed. Research shows that magnesium also increases energy and stamina by encouraging the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the energy packets made in the cells.

Experts recommend bathing with Epsom salt at least three times a week to help you look better, feel better and gain more energy, improve sleep and concentration, and help muscles and nerves to function properly.

To heal cuts

Mix a thick paste of Epsom salt with hot water and apply to for soothing comfort, or Soaking your aching, tired (and smelly) feet in a tub of water with half a cup of Epsom Salts

Treating Constipation

Taken internally, Epsom salt acts as a detoxifying agent for colon cleansing – however, do not use Epsom Salts to relieve constipation without the consultation of a qualified professional

Eliminating Toxins

The sulfates help to flush toxins and heavy metals from the cells, easing muscle pain and helping the body to eliminate harmful substances.

Make using Epsom salt a part of your daily routine and experience the numerous health benefits of Epsom salt.

Gout

Add 2-3 teaspoons of Epsom salts into a basin and immerse the affected foot/joint. The water should be as hot as it is comfortable. Soak for about 30 minutes.

Exfoliating face cleanser

Mix a half-teaspoon of Epsom salt with your regular organic cleanser and gently massage into skin and rinse with cold water.

Clean bathroom tiles

Mix equal parts Epsom salt and liquid dish detergent and use as a scrub on bathroom tile.

Hand wash

Mix Epsom salt with coconut oil and keep by the sink for an effective hand wash.

Fertilize your houseplants

Plants need nutrients like magnesium and sulphur to stay in good health and Epsom salt makes the primary nutrients in most plant foods (nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium) more effective. Sprinkle Epsom salt once weekly to help nourish your houseplants, flowers and vegetables.

If you are pregnant or have any health concerns, check with your doctor before using Epsom salts.
